Botswana officially the Republic of Botswana is an African country located at Southern Africa. Gaborone is the capital city. It is bordered by South Africa to South and Southeast, Zambia to the north, Zimbabwe to the north east and Namibia to the west. The country is well known for its Kalahari Desert. Country population is 2 million that are spread across different parts of the country. Gaborone is the largest and most populous city of the country.

Botswana is well known for its deserts and wildlife habitats. Lands are mostly sandy and dry others are grasslands, savannahs and rivers. Okavango River across the Kalahari Desert gives an ecosystem for the vast variety of mammals and bird species.

Places of Interest

There are many notable places for tourists in Botswana. There are two natural UNESCO world heritage sites in Botswana i.e.

  1. Okavango Delta
  2. Tsodilo hills

Okavango delta

Interior delta system is an exceptional example of interaction between climate, hydrological and the biological process. The river flood in the dry season give live to vast grassland providing a natural habitat for the large mammals and reptile species including the Africa’s endangered animal species namely white rhinos, black rhinos and African wild dogs. Mammal species that live across the grasslands include many species of antelopes, lions, cheetahs, hyenas, wilder beasts, zebras, elephants, giraffes and many other animal species.  

Tsodilo hills

Tsodilo hills also known as “Louvre of the Desert” is a UNESCO world heritage site due to its marvelous rocks paintings in Kalahari Desert spread over 10 square kilometers. There are more than 4500 rock painting preserved in these hills. These hills are a great attractions for tourists and a fun place to visit.
