Zimbabwe

Republic of Zimbabwe is a country in southern Africa between the Limpopo and Zambezi River. Neighboring countries of Zimbabwe are South Africa, Botswana, Zambia and Mozambique. Harare is the capital city of Zimbabwe. 16 official languages are spoken in Zimbabwe. The word Zimbabwe is derived from dzimba-dza-mabwe in Shona language meaning “a large house of stone”. Shona people used this term for Great Zimbabwe, an ancient city whose remains are now declare as a protected site. The earlier residents of Zimbabwe were Shona people who first emerge from Limpopo valley in the early 9th century. During the later half of 10th century Shona people developed trade relation with Arab merchants that eventually help them to build their Kingdom of Mapungubwe. First European nation to travel Zimbabwe were Portuguese who developed their trade relation for the trade of copper, ivory and gold for clothing and glass. In 1880 British colonists arrive with Cecil Rhodes as chairman of British South Africa Company and developed rule over the region. British took control over important mining areas for the extraction of gold, copper and other useful resources. British adopted the name of Rhodesia for their rule over the lands of later Zimbabwe. In 11 November, 1965 Zimbabwe declare independence form the British rule.
